Inspired, he took the shoes back to his job at the Dunlop Rubber Factory and went about emulating the boat shoes’ unique ‘herringbone’ grip in a shoe purpose built for tennis. The Volley was born, and became the tennis shoe of choice for a dynasty of Australian tennis champions.
